Sebastian Mikael Shares New Song ‘Overgold’

Rising singer Sebastian Mikael has returned with “Overgold,” his first offering of the year.

Capturing a romanticized mix of soul and funk, Mikael sings about escaping to paradise with a precious potential. He doesn’t want to blow his shot, handling his pursuit to make a move with care. But Mikael is up to the challenge to go after this particular person before the hourglass runs out.

“How ’bout you and me / Go some place we’ve never seen / Just to live out all our dreams / Where we gettin’ everything,” Mikael sings.

“Overgold” is the first single from Mikael’s forthcoming EP, Phileo, due out Oct. 14. The new set takes its name from a Greek term that defines an emotional attachment that transcends close friendships.

“I wanted to talk about love not in a romantic aspect or in a cliche way, but more as love being a foundation for who we are and as a lifestyle. When we move in love, we’re more powerful because God is Love,” Mikael explains.

Phileo will follow Mikael’s two-part EP I C U U C ME. The first installment debuted in December 2018. The second arrived in April 2019, featuring the focus track “Time.”

He issued a corresponding music video, directed by Nathan R. Smith, that celebrated Black love. Last year, he recruited KIRBY for its official remix.

In August 2020, Mikael shared the song “Exit.” It was accompanied by a video directed by Nathan R. Smith and featured a few animated friends. The song reached No. 13 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
