SiR embraces settling down on his new song, “Nothing Even Matters,” produced by SamTRax. It samples D’Angelo’s “Send It On” from his Grammy-winning sophomore album, Voodoo.
With the neo-soul sample as its backbone, the deeply focused love song pushes the Inglewood, California, native further into the arms of an ebony goddess he can’t live without.
He dreamily croons, “Ever since I can remember, I been rollin’ with stones / Didn’t really think I’d ever find a place I belong / But since you came in the picture, I made a vow to behave / Didn’t want you dealing with someone who would just drown in your wave.”
“Nothing Even Matters” arrives with an accompanying visual directed by Loris Russier. The video’s core finds SiR performing the modern soul jam on a rooftop surrounded by Black queens.
SiR’s new song is the third release of the year, following the effervescent anthem “Life Is Good” featuring Scribz Riley and “Satisfaction.” The latter tune served as the first single for Heavy, his long-awaited third album, coming soon via Top Dawg Entertainment/RCA Records.
In a June interview with Rated R&B, SiR shared the theme for his follow-up to 2019’s Chasing Summer.
“It’s different for me. It’s not Chasing Summer. We did a great job being in the moment with [Chasing Summer] and trying to give the fans something that was me at the time. In this next project, we’re doing the same thing, but in a different way,” explained SiR.
“I’m in a different space mentally, physically, and spiritually. It’s going to be enlightening and tell a side of my life that people haven’t heard yet. So many things have changed with me. It’s going to be nice to reintroduce myself to the world and my fans.”
Chasing Summer was among Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2019. The album featured appearances by Kendrick Lamar, Jill Scott, Sabrina Claudio, Lil Wayne and more. It included the lead single “Hair Down” and fan-favorite “John Redcorn.” The former track, which features Lamar, was certified gold with over 500,000 equivalent units sold. It also marks his first RIAA award.
