‘Kenan & Kel’ and More Celebrities React to Coolio’s Death

In the wake of rapper Coolio‘s passing on Wednesday (Sept. 28), many famous faces and collaborators have taken to social media to pay tribute and offer condolences to his friends and family.

One of his most notable acts in the music industry was for the Nickelodeon show Kenan & Kel, where he created the theme song.

Stars Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell as well as Nickelodeon paid tribute to the icon.

Thompson took to Instagram to share his tribute.

“Damn homie!!! Rest in Power,” he said.

Mitchell also took to Instagram to tribute Coolio.

“Rest in Heaven @coolio! We recently spoke a few months ago laughing and having such a good time. So many great memories with you, bro,” he said.

As for Nickelodeon, the network went on to call him a “legend” in a tweet.

They were not the only ones to pay tribute to Coolio though. Elsewhere, Viola Davis, LL Cool J, and more took the time to pay their respects. See what they had to say below:

Coolio – real name Artis Leon Ivey Jr – passed away at the age of 59, with his longtime manager confirming the news to TMZ. Jarez – his manager – revealed to the outlet that the suspected cause of Coolio’s passing was cardiac arrest, however, an official cause of death has not been revealed as of now.

The rapper’s career first began in the 1980’s, however, it wasn’t until the mid ’90s when he rose to fame. Thanks to his song “Gangsta’s Paradise” he score his first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

He scored two additional top 10 hits over the course of his career. “Fantastic Voyage” was released in 1994 and reached a peak of No. 3 while “1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin’ New) would go on to peak at No. 5.
