“Our Time is Now” to Get Our Ears Blown Out by Gojira’s New Single

We considered that this may be coming down the pipe earlier this week and we were right. Damn straight we were right – earlier today, Gojira released their new single “Our Time is Now,’ a crushing, groovy track that sees our four favorite Frenchmen one again kicking some major ass.

This is the band’s first new music release since 2021’s Fortitude and it coincides with the release of the NHL ’23 soundtrack. Joe Duplantier said the song, like most of their discography really, is a call-to-arms.

“This song goes out to all the fighters out there sparking a light in a dark world [and] show that you are part of a change! If you care about something meaningful to you and your community. If you are standing for a cause, if you show compassion and solidarity for the ones whose rights are taken away, if you’re in a war defending your inherent rights or fighting against deforestation, if you’re standing for animal rights, human rights, you are the lightning bolt, the spark that will shape our world. Your time is now! Our time is now!”

And if you’re listening to the song and thinking “fuck yeah, hockey” then you’re not entirely getting the point. Given everything that’s going on in Iran with the women standing up against a hijab law and the brutal crackdown that’s followed, Joe Duplantier said the song is also dedicated to Masha Amini, whose death sparked those protests.

“Rest In Peace young Masha Amini. She was killed in Teheran for not wearing her hijab ‘properly’ by the ‘morality police’ and Rest In Peace all victims of brutalities during the protests that followed her death. We support the women of Iran in their fight, for taking a stand against oppression!”

Whether you’re in it for the hockey, the self-motivation, or their stance on the Iranian protests, “Our Time is Now” kicks all kinds of ass.
