Dondria has returned with her new EP, Perspective. It was released to celebrate the singer’s 36th birthday (Jan. 6).
The eight-song project includes the previously released tracks “Take You There,” “Let It Be” and “Him.”
The former track was released in the fall of 2019. “‘Take You There’ is a little deeper than the lyrics suggest. I want to take you to a ‘higher’ place where: society and social media don’t define a damn thing, relationship goals are centered around unconditional love, you can get high without hitting a blunt, insecurities don’t exist, and ecstasy exists beyond orgasms,” Dondria explained to Rated R&B.
“Let It Be,” released in January 2021, was produced by Grammy winner Bryan-Michael Cox and co-written by Dondria and Josh Bias.
“I created ‘Let It Be’ with my friend and co-writer Josh Bias from two different spaces: a place of grief, and a place of peace. You kind of have to feel one before you can truly enjoy the other. I’ve had to go through this process numerous times,” Dondria told Rated R&B about the song.
“There are so many things and people I took for granted… I took myself, my gift, my intuition, my peace for granted and I paid a heavy price for it. But instead of letting the fear of losing myself again push me into needing to be in control, I learned the power of balance.”
“Him” made its debut in the spring of 2022. The straightforward groove Dondria co-wrote with Bias speaks to a distracted partner and encourages him to get his act right before the man waiting for a chance gets a turn.
On “Lose Myself,” Dondria’s lovely voice lies beneath a melancholy piano. She sings about, unfortunately, walking away from a relationship to get herself intact.
Dondria ups the tempo, and vibes like no one is watching on “Good Company.”
Bias (“What I Need”) and Avery Wilson (“You and I”) make appearances toward the close of Perspective.
Perspective is Dondria’s first solo EP of original music since 2017’s The Day of The Don. She shared how she’s gone from then to now and the recent release’s significance.
“I dropped my last EP, The Day of the Don in 2017…. 5 years ago. One thing life gone do is LIFE but in the end it gave me a fresh perspective on love, friendship, music, purpose and pain,” Dondria wrote in an Instagram caption.
She added, “The number 5 represents CHANGE and I have truly morphed into a greater version of myself. From my heart to yours… this is my #perspective.”
In 2019, Dondria shared Dondria Duets 5: The 90’s Edition II, the fifth installment of Dondria Duets.
Before that, she joined forces with Broadway for a joint effort titled A Tale of Hearts.
