R&B veteran LaTocha has signed a deal with Motown Gospel, a division of Capitol CMG/Capitol and Universal Music Group.
As part of her new contract, LaTocha’s imprint, Made Girl Music, has an exclusive license agreement with the major label.
“It has always been a passion of mine to do inspirational music,” says LaTocha. “It has been my foundation, and that is very evident, even when I sing R&B music. I can’t escape that.”
Motown Gospel’s Co-Executive Director Monica Coates, adds, “A hallmark of LaTocha’s successful career has been her love for gospel music and her strong personal connection to the Black church. I am excited for her fans—long-standing and new—to finally have a body of work that reflects those areas of her passion.”
“LaTocha has one of the most recognized voices in R&B, but she also has staying power and manages to maintain relevance in a marketplace that doesn’t always allow for that,” notes EJ Gaines, Motown Gospel’s co-executive director. I can’t wait for her fans to hear what she’s been working on.”
LaTocha is gearing up to release her first inspirational project later this year. It’s unclear if her 2021 gospel single “Full Time Love” will appear on the album.
“I wrote this song at a time in my life when I was searching for an unfailing love; one without an expiration and I found it in God,” explained LaTocha.
In November 2022, LaTocha and the other members of Xscape accepted the Lady of Soul Award at the Soul Train Awards.
“Definitely want to thank God for all of this. I thank God for the gift. That’s the reason we’re up here and you guys are celebrating us,” LaTocha said during the acceptance speech.
After receiving their award, Xscape blazed the stage with a medley of their hits, including “My Little Secret,” “Just Kickin It,” “Who Can I Run To,” “Tonight” and “Understanding.”
