Marty Friedman to Rejoin Megadeth for One Night in Japan

When you think about all the lineup changes that’s happened in Dave Mustaine’s jilted lover project called Megadeth, there are few lineups that stand the test of time better than the one including Marty Friedman and Nick Menza. Sadly, we’ll never get that full lineup back together since Menza sadly passed away, but for one night only at the Budokan Arena in Tokyo on February 27, the Cap’n Crunch aficionado and master shredder himself will rejoin Mustaine on stage.

For the first time in more than 23 years, Friedman will perform with Megadeth (albeit in its current form) for a special one-night-only event. Along with being a treat for fans at the Budokan Arena, the show will be livestreamed for fans around the world.

Mustaine said he was excited to hear current guitarist Kiko Loureiro play side by side with Friedman.

“Marty and I have remained friends over 23 years, since we last played together. However, I hear his music every night, and he still is among the top guitar players I’ve ever heard. This is an amazing treat for the fans, as well as myself. To be honest, I may drift off while listening to Kiko and Marty play together!”

Prior to the livestream going… uh… live… fans will get to see an “exclusive behind-the-scenes video capturing the band’s trip through Japan, leading into their first-ever live performance at the Budokan.” The band will reportedly play a whole slew of classic tracks — probably all the ones where Marty fucking slays — as well as new tracks from The Sick, The Dying…And The Dead!.

The livestream will be rebroadcast three times on the 27th and then will be made available for on-demand viewing for two days starting on Feb. 28. Tickets are currently available and cost $15 in advance and $17 on the day of the show. The band’s also offering a couple special pieces of merch for livestream viewers, which is pretty cool.
