Kara Jackson Announces Debut Album, Shares Video for New Song “Pawnshop”: Watch

Why Does the Earth Give Us People to Love? features the Chicago-based musician’s excellent single “Dickhead Blues”

Kara Jackson, the Chicago-based singer-songwriter and former National Youth Poet Laureate, has announced their debut album: Why Does the Earth Give Us People to Love? is out April 14 via September.

The announcement arrives with “Pawnshop,” a new song “about uncovering how worth is subjective,” according to Jackson. They elaborated, “It’s taking ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ and reveling in that sentiment, taking pride in the fact that even if people can’t understand your value, only you know how priceless you are.” Watch the single’s video below.

Jackson wrote and recorded the album’s demos in their childhood bedroom during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. Nnamdï, Kaina, and Sen Morimoto later helped Jackson re-record the demos.

In addition to “Pawnshop,” Jackson’s new LP includes “No Fun/Party,” “Brain,” and “Dickhead Blues.”
