R&B newcomer Chase Shakur has signed with Def Jam Recordings and has issued his debut single, “Sink or Swim.”
Co-produced by Arsenio Archer and Deputy, “Sink or Swim” ponders the future of a relationship that seems to be going through some hiccups.
Shakur sings in the second verse: “Losing patience for what we’ve done / This is what you want, we’ve been in a rut / Too much damage done / I dip out outside, sometimes I need to free the mind / Tell me would you slide? / Tell me what you want / Don’t tell me that you done.”
Khari McCloud directed the accompanying video for “Sink or Swim,” which can be viewed below.
“Sink or Swim” is the first offering from Shakur’s upcoming project, It’s Not You, It’s Me, a continuation of the Atlanta native’s 2022 EP, It’ll Be Fine.
According to a press release, It’s Not You, It’s Me is described as “a mesmerizing meditation on life after a complicated relationship, in which vulnerability mingles with toughened scars, resulting in a work that situates Shakur as steely and willing to learn from his own failures.”
While an official release date has not been announced yet, fans can expect it to arrive sometime this year.
