The Weeknd has teamed up with The Future for a new song, “Double Fantasy.” The Weeknd co-produced the track alongside Mike Dean and Metro Boomin.
Fueled by his default, radio-friendly sound, The Weeknd boasts about bringing a certain sexual freedom out of a romantic interest who doesn’t normally explore any of it during her other escapades.
“Temperature rising, bodies united / Now that I’ve trapped you in my arms / No need to fight it, no need to hide it / Now that I’ve seen what’s in your heart,” The Weeknd sings in the hook.
Future gets similar pleasure from one of his baddies, rhyming, “You possess venom that came with a charm / You get the good out of me when I perform.”
The Weeknd accompanies “Double Fantasy” with an official video, inspired by his upcoming series, The Idol (more on that later). It can be viewed below.
“Double Fantasy” is lifted from The Weeknd’s previously teased The Idol Vol. 1, a presumed soundtrack for his new series, The Idol, coming to HBO and HBO Max on June 4.
Dubbed “the sleaziest love story in all Hollywood,” the upcoming original drama series, co-created by The Weeknd and Sam Levinson, stars Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, and Dan Levy. The Weeknd will also star in the series.
At the time of this publishing, “Double Fantasy” is No. 1 on the iTunes R&B/Soul Songs chart. Meanwhile, the song stands at No. 20 on the iTunes Songs chart (all genres).
Over the years, The Weeknd and Future have collaborated on each other’s respective 2016 albums, EVOL (“Low Life“) and Starboy (“All I Know“).
The former collaboration peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Songs chart and No. 2 Rap Streaming Songs chart. It also reached No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Future called on The Weeknd a year later for his HNDRXX song “Comin Out Strong.”
Circling back to The Weeknd, he recently earned his seventh No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 chart with the duet version of “Die For You” featuring Ariana Grande. He previously topped the main singles chart with Grande for “Save Your Tears (Remix)” in May 2021.
The original version of “Die For You” appears on The Weeknd’s Grammy-winning 2016 album Starboy.
Prior to reigning across the charts, The Weeknd issued Live at SoFi Stadium, his first live album that captured his sold-out, two-night concerts at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, last November for his After Hours Till Dawn Tour.
On June 6, The Weeknd will launch the second leg of his After Hours Till Dawn Tour. The new shows cover Europe and Latin America territories. Kaytranada and Mike Dean will support The Weeknd as special guests. Get more information on remaining tickets at theweeknd.com.
The Weeknd’s upcoming tour will continue the promotion of his most recent studio album, Dawn FM, which was released in January 2022, along with an expanded version, Dawn FM (Alternate World).
