Fan Edit of 72 Seasons Addresses Our Main Criticism by Cutting 15 Minutes Out

Ever since its release last month, Metallica‘s 72 Seasons has sort of been on repeat for me. It’s a confusing record that I want to enjoy but find so much bloat amongst the good. I even said as much in my review at the time, essentially making the argument that Metallica needs someone in the studio to say “no” every once in a while.

Well, it turns out I wasn’t alone in that criticism, nor were countless other listeners. To make the point even more pointed, YouTube user LESS took matters into their own hands and cut a quarter of an hour away from the album’s 82-minute run time. What results, for the most part, is an edit that largely remains true to the final product that Metallica released — only without all the extra repetition and strange musical non sequiturs that pepper each track.

If you’re one of the people that think this record would have been better with a more aggressive edit, then you should definitely check out the video below. Each track has its own segment in the video, so you can skip around to your heart’s content. You can also check out the edit LESS made of Iron Maiden’s Senjutsu, which also needed to be aggressively trimmed down.
