Jalisa Rey Gets ‘So Personal’ on Debut EP: Stream

R&B newcomer Jalisa Rey isn’t holding back on her debut EP, So Personal, out now via D&G Records/SRG-ILS Group.

Speaking on So Personal, Rey wrote in an Instagram caption: “Releasing this EP was a personal goal of mine!! And to sing about my personal perspective of love is SO PERSONAL.’ You have no idea how excited I am to share my feelings with you.”

The seven-track project takes listeners on a journey through love’s complexities. On the opening track, “Don’t Take It Personal,” Rey lets a partner know that she is ready to move on from their broken relationship.

“U Ain’t Sh*t” is a kiss-off anthem that hears Rey rejecting a no-good ex who tries to creep back into her life. “The inspiration behind the song is a true-story experience where I was in a relationship and I kind of got played”, Rey revealed. “I thought we were gonna grow together and while I was away grinding on my music, he played me.”

She added, “I stayed faithful even when I coulda did him dirty. We broke up, and when things started looking better for me he wanted to come back but it was too late. He tried to act like it was on me but I had to let him know he ain’t shit.”

“True Colors” is a bouncy standout track where Rey finally recognizes her partner for who he truly is.

“You showed your true colors / And I ain’t no sucka / You painted a picture / And you gotta claim it / No way I can save you now / Best believe it / And I hope that you are proud of all your secrets,” she sings in the chorus.
