Baroness Are Back and Teasing… Something

Proggy sludge metal titans Baroness have been away for a while. After the release of the superlative 2019 release Gold & Grey and the subsequent tours, the four-piece has largely remained silent. That is, until today.

Earlier this afternoon, the band took to Twitter and posted an odd, albeit interesting message on their social media pages. Featuring what might be a new line from a song or a hint at a new album or maybe their submission for a “Live, Laugh, Love” kind of greeting card, the tweet also includes a signup form that says they’re “gearing up,” along with a kick ass piece of art from frontman John Baizley, which you can check out below.

The idea of this being about new music isn’t completely unfounded. It was only last October that we’d heard from Baizley that 2023 was “going to be a big year for Baroness,” so… we’re half way through 2023 and now would be about the time they’d announce new music if they wanted to warm up the hype machine in time for a late 2023/early 2024 release.

When he mentioned it last October, Baizley said the band had been working on new music during the pandemic and they were committed to getting something done soon.

“Yeah, we started writing a record in the very depths of the pandemic. At the time, the means we had to do that, or the methods that we used to do that, were somewhat challenging, but we got a whole bunch of work done through the pandemic. Once things sort of wound down, our timelines got a little blurrier and we’re getting everything back into focus now. 2023 is going to be a big year for Baroness.”

Remember, this is all just speculation at this point, but we’re absolutely fucking stoked that we can get some new Baroness on the horizon.
