Queens of the Stone Age Continue Their March Into Darkness with “Carnavoyeur”

Josh Homme and the guys in Queens of the Stone Age are no strangers to the dark. Their music has always had a tinge of the macabre, the melancholy, the strange, that can be traced back all the way to their debut release back in 1998. Yet their most recent releases, …Like Clockwork and Villains have seen the band really fall down that rabbit hole.

With today’s release of “Carnavoyeur,” the band’s latest single off their forthcoming album In Times New Roman… that acid trip into the black continues. Whereas the album’s first single “Emotion Sickness” was a bit strange and off, this new track dives headfirst into that trippy, LSD-soaked side of QotSA’s sonic spectrum. It’s a swaying, echo-filled track that has Homme’s crooning front and center amid the booming soundscape.

According to the band, In Times New Roman… is “raw, at times brutal and not recommended for the faint of heart. And yet, it’s perhaps the most beautiful and definitely the most rewarding album in their epic discography. Homme’s most acerbic lyrics to date are buoyed by the instantly identifiable QOTSA sonic signature, expanded and embellished with new and unprecedented twists in virtually every song. With In Times New Roman… we see that sometimes one needs to look beneath scars and scabs to see beauty, and sometimes the scabs and scars are the beauty.”

In addition to the new single, the band also unveiled what they’re calling the “Midnight Club,” an opportunity to hear the new album in its entirety the night before its release starting at 11 p.m. on June 15. Only select record stores and pubs around the world will be hosting the event, with attendees getting access to exclusive merchandise, access to giveaways, and potential signed items and ticket giveaways.

In Times New Roman… will be available on all platforms and as a physical release on June 16 via Matador Records, though you can preorder your copy today.
