Money on top of her.
The Weeknd connects with Playboi Carti and legendary pop songstress Madonna for his new “Popular” single.
Co-produced by Metro Boomin, Mike Dean, and The Weeknd, the star-studded record finds the trio details a woman doing whatever it takes to become famous and its highs and lows.
“Begging on your knees to be popular / Don’t take drugs to be popular,” sings the Toronto hitmaker. “You’re the only one taking over, yeah / See her soul to be popular.”
Madonna lends her vocals to the track (“I know that you see me, time’s gone by / Spend my whole life running from your flashing lights”) and Playboi Carti assists on the hook (“Money on top of me, money on top of her / Yuh, shawty fuck with me ’cause she know I’m popular”)
“Popular” is the follow-up to The Weeknd and Future’s “Fantasy“. Both are off The Idol, Vol. 1, the soundtrack to The Weeknd’s new HBO series, The Idol, premiering June 4.
