Matt Heafy Cements His Place as Metal’s Nice Guy By Saving a Fan from Injury Mid-Song

During his band’s set last night in Dallas, Texas, Trivium frontman Matt Heafy was suddenly forced to pull double duty as he rushed to do security’s job and help a crowd surfing fan avoid injury. While it’s not the first time he’s stopped things to ensure the people coming to see Trivium play are safe, it’s certainly a unique experience to have to get hands on with an unfolding situation.

As you can see in the video he tweeted last night, the band were mid-song when Heafy jumped off the stage and got right up to the railing so he could catch a crowd surfing fan. As it turned out, there was a huge gap in where security was set up, so if Heafy hadn’t acted when he did, that fan could have ended up tumbling down on to the hard floor below.

The footage is absolutely crazy. As anyone knows if you’ve spent time right against the guard rail, things can get hectic pretty fucking fast. Not to mention there’s a sheer drop once you cross over that last person up front. Without someone to catch you, that’s not going to be a pleasant experience.

Thankfully for that fan, Heafy was aware of what was going on and acted. The band then said they weren’t going to continue the show until more security showed up at the railing to help keep fans safe. Good on them.
