Victoria Monét has announced Jaguar II will release Aug. 25 via RCA Records. It’s the second and final installment in Monét’s Jaguar series; the first was released in August 2020.
The announcement includes official artwork and links for pre-ordering and pre-adding on various music retailers and streaming platforms.
Jaguar II will contain 11 tracks. So far, three songs have been released, one of which is “Smoke” featuring Lucky Daye, while the most recent release is “On My Mama.”
The former track, produced by D’Mile, Tim Suby and Yogi, was shared by Monét when she announced she had signed with RCA Records. It has been streamed nearly 9.5 million times on Spotify since March 24.
Between those two songs, Monét enlisted Buju Banton for “Party Girls.” The slick dancehall bop also will appear on Jaguar II.
Monét’s collaboration with Banton has been the most successful so far, debuting at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart upon release.
Monét initially planned Jaguar to be a trilogy but has now decided to release only two parts of the album.
Monét told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, “It really kind of breathes new life into part one. If you’re just now catching onto me as an artist, you’ll know, it’s because it’s part two, that there was a part one, so you may revisit it.”
She continued, “If people are just getting an introduced to an artist, if they see a long list, a long album, they may get kind of overwhelmed, so I kind of always intended to microdose my style and my music to people in segments. But as I went on, I just kind of kept adding songs to those little segments. I know that there won’t be a part three anymore, because obviously, didn’t expect to take three years in between part one and part two, or have a child in between.”
Monét’s 2021 singles “F.U.C.K.” and “Coastin’” will not appear on Jaguar II.
Monét’s last project, Jaguar, was released in August 2020 and featured Oscar-winning and Grammy-winning producer D’Mile in her corner behind the boards. It included features from Khalid and SG Lewis.
Following this, Monét issued remixes for two Jaguar tracks, including “Touch Me” with Kehlani and “We Might Even Be Falling in Love (Interlude).”
Bryson Tiller was featured exclusively on Spotify Singles for the latter song.
Just before Jaguar was ranked No. 5 on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2020, Monét released an orchestral, seasonal version of select tracks from the EP.
Jaguar II is available for pre-add/pre-order.
