The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has announced the notables who will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2024. Brandy, Toni Braxton and Otis Redding are named among the 31 honorees.
Redding, known as the King of Soul, will be posthumously inducted as part of the Live Theatre/Live Performance category.
This announcement comes weeks after four of Redding’s posthumous albums were bundled into a limited vinyl box set, Otis Forever: The Albums & Singles (1968-1970).
The Recording category welcomes Braxton and Brandy. Both women last released albums in 2020, Spell My Name and b7. Each studio set featured respective No. 1s across R&B charts and was featured on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2020 list.
Braxton and Brandy are both celebrating special album anniversaries this year. The Vocal Bible’s sophomore album, Never Say Never, turned 25 earlier this month, while Braxton’s self-titled debut album will turn 30 later this summer.
Ellen K, KOST radio personality and chair of the Walk of Fame Selection Committee, said, “The Selection Committee which is made up of fellow Walk of Famers, carefully hand-picks a group of honorees each year that represent various genres of the entertainment world.”
Ellen K continued, “The Committee did an amazing job choosing these very talented people. We can’t wait to see each honoree’s reaction as they realize that they are becoming a part of Hollywood’s history with the unveiling of their star on the world’s most famous walkway!”
Other class of 2024 honorees include Dr. Dre, Gwen Stefani, Chris Pine, Eugene Levy, Kerry Washington, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Angie Martinez, and others.
The late Chadwick Boseman will also be posthumously inducted under the Motion Pictures category. Rihanna paid tribute to his life and legacy with the Oscar-nominated song “Lift Me Up,” featured in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Boseman portrayed Black Panther/T’Challa in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War; Black Panther; Avengers: Infinity War; and Avengers: Endgame. He passed away in 2020 from colon cancer.
The dates for these star ceremonies have not been scheduled yet.
