Ryan Trey Taps Mariah the Scientist for New Song ‘Ain’t Even Friends’

Ryan Trey is back. The genre-bending act has teamed with Mariah the Scientist for his new single “Ain’t Even Friends.”

Over a trap-styled production, Ryan sings about his unfaithfulness and failure to see he had a solid woman by his side. “At any given time I knew you could call my bluff / You held me down when I couldn’t hold you up,” he sings.

In her verse, Mariah the Scientist expresses regret for the time she spent with an insecure suitor who was unable to make her feel loved. “All them f*cking nights I spent parked up on your block / I put in that time with you abut it wasn’t enough,” she sings.

When asked about the new collaboration, Mariah the Scientist said, “Ryan is so talented. I love the song and had a great experience recording it and shooting the video. I hope everyone loves it as much as we do.”

Ryan’s new song arrives with an official video directed by maliaSHUTup. It can be watched below.

“Ain’t Even Friends” is Ryan’s first solo song release of the year. It’s his first single since last year’s “Only Us” with rapper Babyface Ray. Prior to that, he dropped the project, A 64 East Saga, on Interscope Records.

The 14-track project included his Bryson Tiller-assisted track “Nowhere to Run.” The collaboration remains among Ryan’s trending songs on Spotify, nearing the 42 million streams mark.

This week, Ryan performed the last four shows of Tiller’s Back and I’m Better Tour. Before that, he contributed to Jordan Ward’s debut album, FORWARD, appearing on the song “White Crocs.”
