80’s Multi-Platinum Chart-topping Group RJ’s Latest Arrival Releases Video for “One Step”

A love for their music was rekindled after it’s feature on Starz’s  BMF Series.

Straight Out of Detroit, R&B/Soul group RJ’s Latest Arrival is giving us new music to dance to this summer with their single One Step” featuring Slum Village. The American R&B, dance, and soul music band reached the peak of their popularity in the mid-80’s with hit albums Shackles, Truly Yours, and Tangled In Love.

The group’s 1984 album Shackles was remastered in 2023 and picked up fuel when rapper Nas sampled the multi-platinum, chart-topping single. The song would take off once again after being featured in the latest season of Starz’s BMF series.

This summer, the group is giving us another reason to dance with the video release of One Step. The video features dancing, stepping, and new moves and grooves for the young and the old, the grown and the sexy.

One step at a time I think I’m bout to make you mine/ Show you how I feel Baby come over here/ Just show me your hand I got a plan for us just one step, one step, one step at a time,” RJ’s Latest Arrival sings in the hook.

The music video opens up with alluring city views of Detroit as scenes of beautiful ladies enjoying Ladies Night Out and the fellas having their rounds as they danced and twirled the night away. The band showed fans that they still had it in them as they took hold of the microphone and sang to the melody accompanied by a full band – drums, guitar, and bass.

Originally formed in the late 1970’s, the group reached the peak of their popularity in the mid-80’s before the final split in 1990. But as with all good music, it has a way of transcending time and change.
