Metallica Broke Out Their Epic 72 Seasons Track “Inamorata” Last Night

After months away from the spotlight (barring a few performances here and there), Metallica are back on the road for their ongoing M72 World Tour. With the first two stops of this run taking place in Munich, Germany, there was always going to be a chance that the guys were going to break out an unexpected gem or two during their sets and boy, did they deliver on the second night.

About halfway through their set last night at Munich’s Olympiastadion, the iconic thrash metal band wheeled out the epic track “Inamorata” for the first time ever. Touted by most reviewers as probably the highlight of 72 Seasons, that song is also one of the longer songs in the band’s repertoire.

While the band got ready to get started on the 11-plus minute long song, frontman James Hetfield let fans in the audience know how special an occasion it was that they were playing the song.

“This next song, we have never, ever played live before. And, y’know, in our band we don’t recognise the word ‘mistake’, because there are no mistakes, there’s just unique moments that happen, alright? That’s what we need to tell ourselves. This one is from 72 Seasons – it’s one of my favourites, so I’m gonna like it.”

Love ’em or hate ’em, Metallica remains the top of the food chain when it comes to mainstream metal. The fact that they’re willing to go out on a limb and play a big ass song in the middle of their setlist full of bangers is certainly a choice, since if people aren’t feeling it, then it’s a tonal break in the show.

But we’re talking about Metallica, here — their fans will accept (almost) anything live. You can watch the band play “Inamorata” live below.
