‘Hamnet’ Actor Joe Alwyn Joins Cast of Tomas Alfredson’s ‘Seance on a Wet Afternoon’

Joe Alwyn (Hamnet, The Brutalist) has joined the cast of Seance on a Wet Afternoon, the new film from Tomas Alfredson (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Let The Right One In), currently shooting in the U.K.

Rachel Weisz (The Favourite) and Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) star in the drama, written by Adolescence writer Jack Thorne. Weisz plays Myra, a self-proclaimed medium, who convinces her husband, Billy (Macfadyen), to kidnap the son of a wealthy family so she can lead the police to the “missing” child and legitimize her psychic abilities.

Irish production outfit Element Pictures (Bugonia, Poor Things), a Fremantle company, is producing the feature, together with Astral Projection, the outfit run by Weisz and British executive producer Polly Stokes. The project is part of a first-look and development deal between Astral and Fremantle that was signed back in 2024.

Robyn Slovo, Ed Guiney, and Andrew Lowe are producers for Element Pictures together with Stokes and Weisz for Astral Projection. Film4 and Fremantle are financing the film. Thorne and Macfadyen will act as executive producers, together with Farhana Bhula and David Kimbangi for Film4.

FilmNation Entertainment is handling international sales on the project, with UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance co-representing domestic rights.

Alwyn is repped by Independent Talent Group, CAA and Entertainment 360. Alfredson is repped by UTA. Weisz is repped by Independent Talent Group, CAA, Linden Entertainment, Premier PR, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman. Macfadyen is repped by Hamilton Hodell, UTA, Johnson Shapiro Stewett & Kole and Wolf Kasteler. Thorne is represented by UTA and Casarotto UK.
