Instead, they take the traditions they clearly love and give them room to breathe, creating music that feels familiar while still carrying its own identity. “Burn Down the Fields” is a terrific example of that approach, combining strong songwriting, expressive vocals, and impeccable musicianship into a performance that immediately commands attention.

The Wilsons have built something special around music, family, craftsmanship, and a genuine respect for the song. Founded by Steve Wilson in 2015 as a showcase for his handcrafted banjos, Wilson Banjo Co. soon developed into a much broader musical project, bringing together an impressive rotating cast of players. Their sound is firmly grounded in bluegrass and Americana, yet never feels restricted by either label. That independence has become one of their greatest strengths.
With the killer standout preceding song “If You Don’t Climb the Mountain,” “Burn Down the Fields” sounds like a natural continuation of their increasing traction. Both 2025 releases reached number one on the Roots Top 50 and Contemporary charts, and this latest song has the musicianship and personality to keep the traction going strong with the angelic voice of Wilson.
What stands out most is the impeccable musicianship from the Wilsons. Steve’s banjo comes charging forward with confidence, while Melanie brings a vocal presence that gives the song emotional weight. The surrounding guitar, mandolin, Dobro, bass, and harmony parts are equally impressive, with every musician contributing without ever overwhelming the song itself. That balance is difficult to achieve, and this ensemble makes it sound effortless.
Co-written by Alaina Stacey, Greg Crowe, and Joie Scott, the song tells a story of leaving the past behind and finding renewal among the ashes. There is a powerful sense of new beginnings throughout the track, and the Wilson Banjo Co, spirit gives the message warmth and credibility.
