If you’re going to start a revolution, your debut single is right up there as one of the best places to start, and that’s exactly what Ice Cap Babies intend to do with ‘A Scorched Earth (ain’t no summer place)’.
While it lures you in with its jaunty reggae-inspired pop rap sound, it’s not long before Ice Cap Babies start hitting hard with their message of saving our world from ecological collapse. ‘A Scorched Place (ain’t no summer place)’ will sound familiar right from the start, as it blends the beautiful melody of Max Steiner’s classic tune, ‘Theme From A Summer Place’ with apocalyptic lyrics – it certainly doesn’t mince words as it asks, “what you gonna do when the earth starts burning / how you gonna breathe when the air is smoke”. They continue to point out that you may have all the money in the world but that’s not going to be any good to you as you can’t eat or drink money.
Although Ice Cap Babies themselves are enigmatic, the message of the eco-pop collective is pure and simple. Released on July 25 this year, ‘A Scorched Earth (ain’t no summer place)’ gives listeners a call to action, time is up, we need to do something about it.
Behind Ice Cap Babies are a multi platinum producer with credits including Steps, Westlife, S Club 7, and Samantha Mumba, alongside an award winning, UK Top 15 songwriter, producer, and poet. The pair have, over the past 20 years or so, been mentors for many chart-topping artists, but they prefer to choose anonymity with Ice Cap Babies.
