Xscape and SWV Verzuz Battle Announced

Verzuz continues to cater to the R&B community. With The Isley Brothers vs. Earth, Wind & Fire set for April 4, the growing brand, which celebrated its one-year anniversary this week, has announced its latest battle: Xscape vs. SWV. The highly anticipated event will take place on Saturday, May 8.

LaTocha Scott of Xscape first confirmed the news with TMZ. “We’re getting ready to do this Verzuz battle with Xscape and SWV. It’s going down on May 8th, so I’m out here representing for my home team Atlanta,” Scott told the celebrity gossip outlet. “We’re ready for it.”

Xscape and SWV’s Verzuz battle doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Many fans have been rallying for this battle between the two legendary R&B groups to happen for some time now.

Both groups have hinted at the possibility of a battle via social media.

Last December, Kandi Burruss of Xscape shared a video on Instagram of her group in the studio and was joined by SWV’s LeLee Lyons. In her caption, she wrote, “Should Xscape & SWV do a Verzuz? @therealleleeswv popped up on us at the studio!”

In January, SWV’s Coko Clemons posted a clip on Instagram of her singing The Jones Girls’ “Who Can I Run To,” which was covered by Xscape in 1995. Meanwhile, Scott covered SWV’s hit single “Weak.”

Earlier this week, Verzuz shared a flyer with a schedule of upcoming battle dates. Of course, not all participants were announced. Following Xscape and SWV’s battle, will be a Mother’s Day special (May 9) and a rematch (Memorial Day Weekend). There are a few more TBA battles, including “Ladies Night.”
