Aaliyah’s Music May Be Finally Coming to Streaming Services

Aaliyah’s music may be finally coming to streaming services.

The late singer’s label appears to be hinting at the imminent release of Aaliyah’s discography on streaming platforms. Blackground Records 2.0 has set up new social media accounts and launched a new website, AaliyahIsComing.com, while promoting the hashtag #AaliyahIsComing. Fans can also sign up to receive updates via email.

#AaliyahIsComing started trending as fans shared their excitement over the long-awaited release of Aaliyah’s music.

This isn’t the first time that such an announcement has been teased. In late 2019, someone claiming to be Aaliyah’s uncle, Blackground CEO Barry Hankerson, tweeted that Aaliyah’s full discography would be available to stream in January 2020, but it never materialized.

Only Aaliyah’s debut album, 1994’s Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number, is currently available for streaming. Her other two albums—1996’s One in a Million and her third and final studio album, 2001’s Aaliyah—are not available on any digital platforms.

This month marks the 20-year anniversary of Aaliyah’s death. The 22-year-old singer died in a plane crash in the Bahamas on Aug. 21, 2001.

Hankerson recently announced that he is relaunching Blackground Records as Blackground Records 2.0. The first signee will be singer Autumn Marini, billed as the “First Lady of Blackground Records 2.0.”
