Ariana Grande Sings Cover of ‘Over the Rainbow’ After Being Told She’s ‘Not a Singer’ Anymore

Ariana Grande reminded her fans that she is primarily a vocalist in a recent TikTok video. The Grammy award winner is currently on set for the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Wicked, and shared the video in response to people asking why she isn’t still a singer. In the video, Grande sings an unaccompanied cover of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” the iconic song from The Wizard of Oz which Wicked is based on. She captioned the video, “[I’m] literally on set filming two musical movies all day every day,” and added that she wanted to sing something Ozian. Grande is playing the character of Glinda in the movie and will star opposite actress Cynthia Erivo, who plays the main character, Elphaba. Erivo shared Grande’s post on Instagram, writing that Grande is a singer who can do more than that.

The upcoming film adaptation of Wicked is highly anticipated by both fans of the musical and fans of Grande and Erivo. The film is being directed by acclaimed filmmaker Stephen Daldry, who has previously directed Billy Elliot and The Reader. The film is set to feature a star-studded cast and a screenplay written by Winnie Holzman, who wrote the book for the original Broadway musical.

Grande’s performance in the film is highly anticipated by fans, as she has previously shown her singing and acting skills in various projects. She has released six albums, with her most recent, “Positions,” released in October 2020. She has also appeared in several films and TV shows, including Scream Queens and Hairspray Live!

Erivo is also highly respected in the industry and has previously won a Tony award for her role in The Color Purple on Broadway. She has also starred in films such as Widows and Harriet, for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

The release date for Wicked is yet to be announced, but fans can expect to see Grande and Erivo’s stunning performances in the near future. With Grande’s vocal abilities and Erivo’s acting and singing skills, the film is sure to be a hit.
