(Today 4/5) ThisIsRnb debuts a new column titled, “ThisIsRnB New Wave: Best New R&B Releases Of The Week,” which offers readers a roundup of some of the best R&B releases within the past weeks.

Curated by Tallie Spencer, the column will spotlight musical releases each week, ranging from pitches to organic discoveries from both independent artists to mainstream acts. Audiences will get the scoop on rising stars who are making waves in the R&B realm, as well as stay up to date with what is playlist-add worthy.

As the melodic tunes fill our speakers, this week was a great week for R&B music as a whole. From Jhene Aiko, to Khalid and Aqyila, the gems this week continue to heat up ahead of summertime.

Each song selected on this week’s list has been hand-picked and offers something for every listener.

Check out some songs that dropped within the last week that we’re spotlighting.

Jhene Aiko – “Calm and Patient”

With her first release of the year, “Calm and Patient” is a track that brings us back to Jhene Aiko’s signature ethereal sound. Listeners are in for a treat with this track, which delivers Jhene’s soothing sounds and vocals.

Khalid – “Softest Touch”

This upbeat R&B track showcases the Khalid that we all know and love. A reliable song that resonates, Khalid returns with a fun, summery vibe. The single arrives just in time, ahead of Khalid’s forthcoming project, EVERYTHING IS CHANGING. “Softest Touch” taps into the artist’s emotional side.

Njomza, Louis The Child – Over You

A sweet song with an accompanying music video, Njomza is an artist with extreme talent whose voice and melodies stand out from the crowd. This “Over You” was definitely added to my favorites.

Aqyila – “Hello”

Aqyila’s vocals are undoubtedly one of the best of her generation. While also gaining traction on TikTok, Aqyila knows how to wow an audience. The song “Hello,” may be one of her most vulnerable yet, and shows the R&B singer in a new light than before.

K. Forest – “$weet & $our”

After discovering this song “$weet & $our”, I’m definitely a K. Forest fan. I love the harmonies and melodies that he incorporates into his music, and will be sure to stream more of his songs.

Ginga Soul – “Karmic”

Ginga Soul has a classic R&B sound with a vocal production that sounds out. She puts her own twist on music using distinct notes and melodies that are easy to listen to and contribute good vibes to the day.
