Dikajee has today released her new video titled ‘Friar’s Lantern’ from her second full-length album, ‘The Frame’, dropping November 6th. Dikajee does not exactly stroll into ‘Friar’s Lantern’ so much as summon it from whatever strange corner of the human soul has been collecting dust, ghosts, and unfinished dreams. The result is haunting without becoming melodramatic, atmospheric without disappearing up its own artistic backside, and emotionally heavy without needing to wave a giant sign announcing its importance. Dikajee has a remarkable ability to make vulnerability sound powerful, and this track finds that balance beautifully.
The song carries a sense of quiet reassurance that gradually becomes something much bigger. Her voice moves through the arrangement with an almost theatrical precision, shifting from intimate reflection to something that feels genuinely transcendent. Then comes Guillaume Bernard of KLONE with guitar work that adds another layer of tension and texture without hijacking the song. His contribution feels less like a guest appearance and more like another character entering an already compelling story.
The video complements that atmosphere by embracing the song’s darker emotional edges rather than trying to polish them into something artificially pretty. ‘Friar’s Lantern’ feels fascinated by the space between loss and possibility, which gives the track an intriguing emotional ambiguity. Frankly, that is a lot more interesting than another song pretending everything is fine.
With The Frame arriving November 6, ‘Friar’s Lantern’ makes a particularly compelling introduction to what Dikajee is building next. Her progressive rock, folk, classical, and metal influences are not sitting around politely waiting for their turn. They are colliding, arguing, and somehow making the whole thing work. Dikajee has created a song that feels deeply personal while leaving enough room for the listener to bring their own ghosts into the room. That is the trick with genuinely affecting music. It does not tell you exactly what to feel. It simply gives you the lantern and lets you wander.
“This song should probably be called ‘Wondering Light’ because that’s what I’ve meant to describe, but I just loved that word combination. This song is empowering, but at the same time it’s a type of song that you would sing to someone who is dying; you’re gonna be ok, it’s gonna be fine; like a reassurance to make the dying person avoid horror. At the same time I’m picturing some ghosts of dreams that are probably dead somewhere inside you, but if you spend some time with yourself, reach out to your deep spirit, you may find that that kid who dared to dream, to laugh, to fall in love, to say yes to adventures is still there and that it’s never too late to live if you’re alive. I think this song is a sister of the previous track ‘Home of the Wind’.”
