Apparently the indie rock universe decided we all needed another song about craving affection, but Harley somehow dodges every tired cliché on ‘Tell Me You Love Me’. The track bursts through the speakers with the confidence of a band that already assumes you are singing along by the second chorus. It feels like the kind of song that wanders into a tiny bar gig and leaves acting like it owns the festival stage.
The guitars arrive with enough swagger to make half the streaming playlists look deeply embarrassed about their life choices. Airy synth textures drift around the edges while the rhythm section keeps everything moving with a pulse that refuses to sit still. Harley stacks these elements together without turning the song into a cluttered mess, which is a minor miracle in an era where every indie act seems determined to bury itself under reverb.
Lyrically the song chases reassurance with a nervous grin, and that tension gives the whole thing its spark. The repeated plea of ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ lands somewhere between a romantic confession and a musician staring into a crowd hoping somebody actually gets it. That double meaning keeps the song from becoming sentimental wallpaper and gives it a pulse that lingers long after the final chorus.
What really sells the track is how effortlessly it balances vulnerability and momentum. Harley sounds invested in every line without falling into dramatic theatrics, which is refreshing when so many singers treat emotional honesty like an Olympic event. The performance feels human, messy, and oddly triumphant all at once.
‘Tell Me You Love Me’ ends up sounding like the cool kid at the party who secretly wants reassurance just like everyone else. It is catchy enough to demand repeat listens and sincere enough to earn them. Harley has delivered a song that feels bright, restless, and impossible to shake, which means the indie blogs can put away their usual eye rolls for at least three and a half minutes.
About Harley
Since launching the project in 2021, Harley has released a string of singles including ‘Depths’, ‘Those Eyes’, ‘What Do I Know’ and ‘Give Me Something’, while building a growing presence on stages across Southeast Queensland.
Along the way, he has shared stages with acts including MODELS and MARVELL, performed at Bluesfest 2024, and continued to refine a sound shaped by indie rock, folk and blues influences.
Now on the all-consuming ‘Tell Me You Love Me’, Harley delivers the kind of track that demands to be sung back. Anchored by its repeated titular refrain, the track captures the restless search for reassurance through something punchy, euphoric and impossible to shake.
Effortlessly cool and full of movement, layers of guitars, airy synths, and driving rhythms give the track a constant sense of dynamism, with each moment arriving bigger, bolder, and more irresistible than the last. From the anthemic lead guitars and feel-good groove to the impassioned cries of “tell me you love me”, the result is absolutely infectious.
Beneath its upbeat exterior, ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ is written from the perspective of a lover pleading for reassurance, tracing the self-doubt that can emerge when affection begins to feel uncertain. Yet like all good pop songs, there is more than one story to be found within it. Speaking on the track, Harley shares:
“‘Tell Me You Love Me’ is a search for validation and fulfilment. Something I think we all feel but instead put on a brave face and ignore. However, I love when songs have double meanings and can be interpreted by the listener in multiple ways. I think for me the song serves in the light of a musician searching for fans and validation. Seeking sold out shows, people who truly connect with the music and perhaps the strength to be unapologetically goofy and weird.”
Packed with heart, energy and undeniable hooks, ‘Tell Me You Love Me’ arrives on Friday, June 19. Just be prepared to sing it back.
