Kings County have today released their new video and single titled ‘What Now’. Some bands write breakup songs that sound like they were composed while staring sadly into a cup of cold coffee. Kings County clearly had other plans. ‘What Now’ arrives like a steel toed boot through the front door, turning personal upheaval into a hard rock rallying cry packed with grit, swagger, and enough energy to wake up a festival crowd three states away. The song wastes no time getting to the point, and that confidence gives it an immediate punch.
What makes the track stand out is how lived in it feels. The lyrics tackle the aftermath of a relationship gone wrong, but they avoid the usual self pity traps that often bog down this territory. Instead, Kings County focus on resilience and forward momentum. It is a familiar story, yet the band presents it with enough conviction to make it feel fresh. You can hear the scars, but you can also hear the determination to move beyond them.
The video wisely leans into performance and atmosphere rather than overcomplicating things. Shot by the band themselves, it has the kind of focused intensity that many bigger budget productions somehow manage to miss. The lighting is sharp, the pacing stays locked in with the music, and every frame feels designed to amplify the song’s restless energy. It is proof that a clear creative vision often beats throwing money at a concept until it collapses under its own weight.
Musically, ‘What Now’ benefits from its reinvention. The guitars hit harder, the production feels tighter, and the entire track carries a modern edge without abandoning the classic hard rock DNA that fuels it. The collaboration with Chuck Alkazian clearly paid off because the song sounds bigger, heavier, and far more urgent than something that was left sitting in the vault for years has any right to sound. Rather than feeling recycled, it feels reborn.
Perhaps the most satisfying part of the story is that Kings County are not acting like a band content to coast on past accomplishments. The addition of Robbie Dexter injects fresh blood into the lineup, and the chemistry on display suggests a group that is still evolving rather than settling into routine. ‘What Now’ captures a band that knows exactly who they are while still pushing forward. In a genre that often mistakes volume for excitement, Kings County deliver both, and they make it look annoyingly easy.
About ‘What Now’
‘What Now’ is a track born from real‑life upheaval, sharpened by experience, and rebuilt for 2026 with a modern, aggressive edge.
Kings County is Rob Dexter (Vocals, Bass), Steve Bell (Guitars, Vocals), Joe Lopez (Drums), Bill Kania (Guitars, Vocals) and Robbie Dexter (bass).
Rob says, “One thing I’ve noticed when writing lyrics and addressing subject matters is when you write about real life situations, the listener seems to relate to it more because many may have been through that exact situation. Our song ‘What Now’ is that real life occurrence when relationships go bad and how you make it to the other side a stronger, better person.”
Originally demo-ed years ago, the track sat untouched until the band revisited it this year with a fresh perspective. Super Producer/Engineer Chuck Alkazian, owner of Pearl Sound Studios, helped rebuild the song into a heavier, more urgent version of itself fusing aggressive guitars and a sharpened modern production style that finally matches the vision they had from the beginning.
The band has also undergone its own evolution. “About a year ago,” Rob says, “my 20-year-old son Robbie showed interest in playing an instrument. He seemed to gravitate towards the bass. After a few months giving him playing tips, he was playing songs that would have taken me way longer to master when I first started. He played his first show with us last summer in front of 1000 people and he killed it. Nothing wrong with injecting a little youth into the lineup.”
Kings County continues to expand their creative reach behind the camera as well. While recent videos were produced by professional crews, they returned to their DIY roots for the ‘What Now’ video, shooting it themselves on a Tampa, FL soundstage. With self‑taught production skills, a strong vision, and a focus on lighting and atmosphere, Rob captured an electric performance video in just 10 hours. “It’s amazing what you can do with a decent camera and a vision. I’ve always had a passion for creating, directing and editing our music videos and I was on a mission to make this one great. Shooting a performance video is way easier to create. I’m super happy how the video came out, great visuals, great energy.”
2026 has already been a milestone year for Kings County. Following the successful delivery of their hard‑rock cover of INXS’s “Don’t Change,” they have another new single nearly complete with Alkazian. Kings County will also continue performing throughout the Southeast U.S. for the remainder of the year.
