London’s The Pixel Rain released their new eight-track album A Sense of Danger, bringing together a richly melodic blend of darkwave, synthpop, futurepop, EBM and industrial rock, with a distinctly retro-futuristic sensibility. Combining driving electronic rhythms, atmospheric synthesizers and infectious melodies, the album explores a world of mounting uncertainty, where wider societal tensions intersect with the complexities of personal relationships.
For Hungarian-born vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Áron Siegler, the exploration of these themes developed across the album’s lyrical narrative in ways that surprised even him:
“The main theme was the anxiety about how our society is edging closer to its collapse through politics, social media or climate catastrophes, but there were more personal topics as well simultaneously about toxic relationships, jealousy and a haunting past. Both ‘storylines’ ended up connecting with each other and found their inevitable end by the end of the album, which became surprisingly bittersweet even to myself.”
Musically, Siegler drew inspiration from the two-part structure of New Order’s Brotherhood, approaching the writing process with the idea of giving the record two complementary halves, using the distinction between darker and more uplifting electronic sounds as a loose creative framework rather than a rigid stylistic division. The result is a cohesive collection of eight songs that moves through varying shades of tension, urgency, melancholy and melodic warmth.
Founded by Siegler, The Pixel Rain emerged from Southeast London’s underground scene with a self-titled debut EP in 2023. Since then, the project has continued to develop its sound through atmospheric electronics, driving rhythms and melodic songwriting, with the album preceded by four singles: ‘Last’, ‘Sacrifice’, the title track and most recently ‘Glitching Sky’.
