Ungothly Places – No Shadows

Ungothly Places have apparently decided that the best way to deal with betrayal is to turn it into a sonic demolition job, and honestly, who needs therapy when you have down tuned guitars and a healthy disregard for emotional subtlety? With “No Shadows,” the Vancouver outfit makes its debut on Rock Shop Records by throwing modern metalcore, gothic atmosphere, and industrial flavored aggression into a blender and hitting the button marked absolutely not over it. Led by Glen Clarke, formerly of 2 Shadows, the project arrives with plenty of dark theatrics and enough attitude to make your average brooding vampire look like an underachiever. The result is a track that wears its bruises proudly while refusing to wallow in them.

What makes ‘No Shadows’ particularly satisfying is the balance between its punishing heaviness and its melodic instincts. The down tuned guitars bring the muscle, the electronic elements add a sinister sheen, and the hooks provide just enough accessibility to keep the whole affair from disappearing into a black hole of chugging riffs and dramatic hand gestures. Crispin Earl of The Veer Union helps shape the production, giving the track a polished, muscular sound without sanding off its darker edges. Clarke has described the song as a reaction to personal betrayal, and that emotional charge comes through in the music. This is not the sound of someone quietly journaling about their feelings over a cup of tea. This is the sound of someone turning those feelings into a full scale electrical storm and inviting the neighbors to experience it whether they like it or not.

The most interesting thing about Ungothly Places is that the darkness comes with a sense of humor and a distinctly visual identity, a combination that keeps the project from taking itself quite as seriously as some of its gloomier contemporaries. Born from the viral Goths in Ungothly Places series and carrying forward the creative DNA of 2 Shadows, the band understands that a compelling aesthetic needs more than black clothes and an aggressively suspicious relationship with sunlight. ‘No Shadows’ establishes a promising foundation for this new chapter, delivering the heaviness, atmosphere, and memorable melodies that fans of dark alternative metal crave. Better yet, a song that began with anger has become a celebration of friendship and collaboration, which is a considerably more satisfying ending than simply glaring into the abyss. Ungothly Places have arrived with a clear identity and a sound built to leave a mark. The shadows can stay. Just make sure they turn the volume up.

About Ungothly Places

Ungothly Places is a Vancouver, Canada-based metalcore band that was spawned from the viral “Goths in Ungothly Places” series, which has reached millions of viewers across social media. Led by Glen Clarke, frontman of 2 Shadows, the project brings the world behind those videos into the music itself, combining dark visual storytelling, goth culture, heavy music, and humor into one identity. Their debut single on Rock Shop Records, “No Shadows”, was produced by and features The Veer Union’s Crispin Earl.

Born from the evolution of 2 Shadows, Ungothly Places carries that history forward into a new era, expanding on the shadowy imagery, heavy music, and larger-than-life visual identity that defined that band while creating something entirely its own. The project continues the style of sketch comedy and visual storytelling that first connected Glen and 2 Shadows with a massive online audience.

In discussing the inspiration for the song, Clarke says “‘No Shadows’ is about betrayal in its most raw reactionary form. It’s full of emotion and was written in the heat of the moment following a deeply personal experience. Shortly after returning from tour in 2024, I gathered my touring musicians, and we wrote our first ever song. It came together very quickly and eventually grew into a collaboration with some of my closest friends, including members of The Veer Union.”

He continues “Despite being such an aggressive song, I have incredibly fond memories of making it. There was so much laughter, camaraderie, and catharsis throughout the process. When I hear the song now, I don’t think about the betrayal anymore. I think about my friends and the amazing experience we shared bringing so many talented musicians together. Something that began in anger and frustration ultimately became a celebration of friendship and creativity”.

Blending modern metalcore with gothic atmosphere, down-tuned guitars, electronic elements, and melodic hooks, Ungothly Places sits somewhere between the worlds of metal, industrial, and dark alternative music. The project pairs its music with a heavily visual approach, building a world where horror, goth culture, and dark humor exist side by side.

Signed to Rock Shop Records, Ungothly Places continues its creative partnership with producer Crispin Earl of The Veer Union, who produced the 2 Shadows catalogue and remains a key part of the sound behind the new project. The band is made up of nearly the entire team behind 2 Shadows, with Dylan Elkin joining the lineup as Ungothly Places moves into its next chapter. 2 Shadows has amassed five million career audio streams, over two million YouTube views and 100 million Social Media content views; and the band has toured North America 3 times. Ungothly Places has a large and very loyal social media following.

The band will release its first full-length album in spring 2027, followed by a North American tour in support of the record. While performing live, Ungothly Places will bring both new material and songs from the 2 Shadows catalogue to the stage, bridging the history of the old project with the beginning of a new and exciting era.
