We thought ‘Life Is But a Dream…’ was tough to describe when it came out, but ‘STATICA’ is a whole other level of weirdness and experimentation. Opener “LIGHTS” sounds like a journey through a futuristic haunted mansion with robotic vampires, the vocals across the three other tracks are reminiscent of early 2000s hip-hop songs and the music overall has a bit of a frenetic feel to it.

Asking Alexandria’s trendy and eminently catchy Stand Up and Scream quickly made them forerunners of the late-2000s scenecore movement. They scored another metalcore hit with 2011’s Reckless and Relentless before pursuing their classic rock and glam metal influences more aggressively on 2013’s From Death to Destiny.

The Black (2015) —their only album with lead vocalist Denis Stoff instead of Danny Worsnop — marked an inflection point in Asking Alexandria’s sound. Following Worsnop’s return and the release of their 2017 self-titled album, Asking Alexandria have kept their focus on hooky hard rock anthems, fueled by huge guitars and Worsnop’s gravelly, whiskey-soaked vocals.
