Mike Patton Covered Mr. Bungle and Faith No More During AVTT/PTTN Show

Over the weekend, Mike Patton sang some tracks from his Mr. Bungle and Faith No More days while on tour with his latest project, AVTT/PTTN. Though his collab with folk rock band The Avett Brothers carries with it a folky Americana sound itself, that didn’t stop the group from trotting out some fan favorites to both excite and bum out huge swathes of his fan base.

During the shows this past weekend, AVTT/PTTN didn’t shy away from covering their respective music. Multiple times throughout their sets, AVTT/PTTN played a majority of Avett Brothers covers, with some Faith No More songs sprinkled in amidst the group’s actual songs they wrote together.

For our purposes, they played “Ashes To Ashes” off of Faith No More’s Angel Dust record, “Digging The Grave” off their album King for a Day… Fool for a Lifetime album, and “Easy”, the Commodores song that Faith No More famously covered. As for their Mr. Bungle covers, they did a snippet of “Vanity Fair” and the entirety of “Retrovertigo”, both off the classic California album.

These performances come just weeks after Mike Patton openly said that Faith No More’s last tour felt like “closure”, effectively cementing the fact that the band is on “permanent hiatus”. Still, it’s left fans of the band watching the live performances feel like they’re on the outside looking in, with many feeling they didn’t get any closure with how things ended. Sure, that’s not something the artists owe their fans, but Mike Patton fans are rabid, man. They want it all, even if they can’t have it.
