Miley Cyrus Admits She Went to the 2025 Oscars to Pitch Original Songs to Filmmakers

Just in case filmmakers are listening, Miley Cyrus may be down to write original music for your movie.

The Grammy winner recently revealed to People how she pitched her songwriting talents to director James Cameron, which later landed her song “Dream as One” in the credits of Avatar: Fire and Ash, currently playing in theaters.

“I kind of throw it out there, as I always do,” she said of meeting Cameron at the 2024 D23 Expo. “I already knew the answer to, ‘So what have you been up to?’ I know he’s been up toAvatarfor a very long time.”

So that’s when Cyrus mentioned, “Just lemme know if you ever need any music.” And their conversation happened to be at the perfect time in the development of the third Avatar installment.

“It just kind of organically happened,” she said. “James actually calls us ‘Legends in law.’”

This wasn’t the first time the Last Song star used this technique to collaborate with filmmakers in Hollywood.

“I did the same thing to [The Last Showgirlstar]Jamie Lee Curtis,” Cyrus shared of how her Golden Globe-nominated song “Beautiful That Way” landed in the Gia Coppola filmlast year. “That’s how I ended up doingLast Showgirland now being a part ofAvatar.”

The “Flowers” singer added, “That’s why I went to theOscarsthis year. Everybody that came up and introduced themselves, I said, ‘Well, if you need any music, I’m around.’”

And Cyrus isn’t just interested in participating in films, but also in television, as she also pitched herself to the creators of Baby Reindeer. “I don’t know what I would write forBaby Reindeerseason two, but I threw that out there,” she said.

Cyrus said her interest in writing songs for film and TV, like “Dream as One,” is her way of taking part in “what really kind of bites in a film.”

“I really feel myself attached to songs,” she explained. “There’s certain songs that even if they were written for the film or just a song used in the film, like ‘I Will Always Love You,’ you immediately think of the movie itself and they become embedded.”
