Amazon MGM Studios’ hit film Project Hail Mary is premiering on Prime Video on Friday, July 3, repping a 105-day theatrical window to streaming.
As we previously told you, the feature take on the Andy Weir novel directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller directed hit MGM+ first in homes on June 18, a 90-day theatrical window. The reason for the Ryan Gosling pic’s arrival on MGM+ first versus Prime Video stemmed from the movie going through a traditional windows system at Amazon MGM Studios, from theaters to PVOD to MGM+, the latter being the pay-one window. A movie such as the Dwayne Johnson-Chris Evans feature Red One was greenlit via Prime Video, hence it went straight to the streaming service after its theatrical play.
Project Hail Mary follows a middle school science teacher (Gosling) who finds greatness thrust upon him when he is enlisted to go on an outer space mission for the U.S. government. Also starring stars Gosling and Sandra Hüller, the movie was an enormous bright spot at the spring box office, racking up over $683M worldwide — the third-biggest global take in 2026 thus far.
