Walt Disney Studios Becomes Second Studio To Cross $4B WW In 2026

Walt Disney Studios today has just passed the $4 billion global benchmark at this year’s box office, becoming the second studio after Universal to do so.

Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 5 carries the torch as the studio’s highest grossing movie YTD with more than $1.095B ($624.2M int’l, $471.3M domestic). But also, the studio gets credit for firing up summer with the female dominant, The Devil Wears Prada 2 from the 20th Century Studios label, a huge success at close to $692M (which put the two-pic franchise past $1B globally).

While franchises are always bankable for Pixar, they game back with originals with Hoppers at close to $390M WW ($166M domestic, $223.6M foreign).

Not so hot, but providing a buffer for gross was Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu ($177.7M and $345M WW; the lowest grossing live-action Star Wars movie ever under Solo: Star Wars Story‘s $392.9M) and live-action Moana with a running cume of $281.5M ($159.5M int’l, $122M domestic), a casualty of coming less than two years after the $1 billion-plus success of animated Moana 2.

Other pics on the schedule include 20th Century Studios’The Dog Stars, Searchlight Pictures’Martin McDonagh’s WildHorse Nine, WaltDisney Animation Studios’Hexedover Thanksgiving and Marvel Studios’ highly anticpatedAvengers: Doomsday, just before Christmas on Dec. 18.

The company has been the No. 1 studio in nine of the last ten years. This year, Disney will unwrap their future year-end, 2027 and beyond slate at D23 fan confab in Anaheim.
