Olivia Rodrigo pulled double duty on this week’s episode of Saturday Night Live, taking her inaugural turn as host as well as serving as musical guest in support of her forthcoming album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.
Rodrigo previewed the album by performing the lead single “drop dead” and debuting a new ballad called “begged” featuring Weyes Blood on backing vocals. For the former song, she was introduced by Blondie’s Debbie Harrie, while recent SNL host Connor Story returned to Studio 8H to intro Rodrigo’s second performance.

As host, Rodrigo appeared in several sketches, including “My Room,” in which she sang about living in a zoo on the Bug People Planet, and a Shop TV sequel where she played a baker showing off her sexually suggestive lava cake (the original sketch starred fellow pop star Sabrina Carpenter).She also starred opposite Ben Marshall as two exes trying to make each other jealous; played a conniving heiress in a spoof of an ’80s television show; was the passenger in an Uber whose driver realized a hidden talent as a Rasta MC; a TikToker in a home security ad; and a portrayed cheating spouse who busted her suspicious husband. Meanwhile, for the opening monologue, Rodrigo spoofed her debut single “driver’s license” by singing a song about going to the DMV.
