Stranger Things: The First Shadow Play to End Broadway and West End Runs This Winter

Stranger Things went off the air at the start of this year, and now the curtain will close on its theatrical prequel at the beginning of the next one. The play Stranger Things: The First Shadow will end its Broadway and West End runs on January 3rd, 2027 and December 27th, 2026, respectively.

The play debuted in London in 2023 and came to New York in April 2025. It’s struggled to sustain success in the US, reporting around 60 to 70% capacity during recent shows (via The Hollywood Reporter). It’s best sales came during Christmas week 2025, when the Netflix series’ impending finale and the typically high-volume holiday season led to a $2.5 million take. However, the production’s immense and entertaining on-stage special effects come with a hefty price tag, and they likely have yet to recoup costs.

Taking place in 1959 and focused on Henry Creel (aka Vecna) and other characters during high school, the show perhaps rewards fans of Stranger Things more than regular theatergoers. So if that’s you and you want to seeStranger Things: The First Shadow before it leaves Broadway, get tickets here, or see its final UK shows by getting tickets here.

Netflix also filmed the Broadway production for a yet-unannounced streaming release. Meanwhile, the complete Stranger Thingsseries is coming to 4K Ultra HD on July 28th, and you can pre-order the deluxe edition now.
