ALONZO, a singer, songwriter, and performer from Los Angeles, blends rock, pop, soul, and cinematic storytelling in his latest release, ‘WORTHY’. A vocals-driven anthem, the song’s narrative is about knowing what you deserve and refusing to abandon yourself in order to be loved.
The audio for the music video for ‘WORTHY’, is the live arrangement, ‘WORTHY (Live)’, produced by Nathaniel W James, while the clip itself was directed by José “Hollywood” Ramos and filmed against the open landscapes of Lancaster, California.
Speaking about WORTHY’, ALONZO says,
“I wrote ‘WORTHY’ at a time when my heart was just beginning to open again after being closed for a long period. The chorus came to me very simply and clearly: ‘I am worthy of love.’ It felt less like something I was trying to write, and more like something I needed to remind myself of”.
Throughout the song, which was written by ALONZO and produced by Quincy Holland, self-worth becomes an anthem, as ALONZO calls for action, consistency, trust, and respect while at the same time, confronting the difference between someone saying they love you and behaving in a way that demonstrates it.
At the very centre of ‘WORTHY’ is the premise, “I am worthy of love”. Starting out as a personal affirmation, it soon becomes clear that it’s in actuality a reminder to us all, that love should never require us to abandon ourselves.
The music video takes this a step further, transforming the song into an almost ceremonial reclamation of self-worth, blending Afrocentric futurism, high-fashion imagery, and natural landscapes, resulting in a timeless, regal-like world.
The music video itself is essentially a love letter to women of colour, with black women at the visual and emotional centre of the music video, forming the very heart of the whole clip. Starting with restraint, the visual gradually expands until it’s a high-powered dance sequence. Created independently and self-funded by ALONZO, the video for ‘WORTHY’ is a glorious statement reflecting the sheer scale of his vision and his mission of producing meaningful work.
