Three piece rock band CANNING bring the sounds of the past kicking and screaming into the present, and latest single, ‘Solitude’ is certainly a fine example of this mission.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Cream, Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin, among many others, CANNING comprises Fritz Armstrong on bass and vocals, Tom Miller on drums, and Ricky Canning on guitar and vocals. Their sound is built around drums, bass, and guitar, but through years of playing and experimentation, they’ve taken that and developed their own style.
Each member of the band discovered music at an early age: Fritz was opened up to the possibilities of sound at the age of five when he first encountered The Beatles’ ‘Magical Mystery Tour’. Tom, meanwhile, got hooked on rock music after hearing Joan Jett’s “’ Love Rock ’n Roll’ playing on the radio, igniting his passion for playing drums. Ricky’s love for music came through his family’s FM radio, and he quickly became enamoured with the guitars, rhythms, and energy of all the music he heard.
Latest single, ‘Solitude’ is pure rock and roll, opening with strident guitars and drums, and never once giving up an ounce of power. Each member is allowed their own space to shine, something which more bands could take on board. The accompanying music video is a live performance, showing CANNING doing what they do best – making music with each artist in their element – enjoying the solitude of just themselves and their instrument.
