Levi Foster, a Nashville-based singer-songwriter originally from Lynchburg, Virginia, is releasing a deeply moving track titled “Walter” on February 21. The song, set to strike an emotional chord with listeners, paints a raw, heartfelt picture of the devastation caused by Alzheimer’s disease, both for the person suffering from it and their loved ones. Through the eyes of a daughter named Julie, who is devotedly caring for her father Walter, the song brings the complexities and emotional toll of the disease to life.

Foster, whose previous work has spanned both Country and Americana genres, felt compelled to tell this story after hearing the personal experiences of his co-writers, Sabrina Stewart and Court Taylor. Both had family members who were affected by Alzheimer’s. Sabrina’s grandfather, who shared the name “Walter,” was lost to the disease, and Court’s grandfather also struggled with it. These stories, intertwined with their personal grief and love, helped shape the powerful lyrics of the song. According to Foster, “Telling the story from both sides brings into focus how hard Alzheimer’s is on the person suffering and for their loved ones.”
The song’s release is accompanied by a collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Association, with Foster planning a special benefit show in Nashville on March 20 to raise funds for The Longest Day, an event aimed at combating Alzheimer’s. On June 20, the longest day of the year, thousands of people worldwide participate in activities to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer’s research. For those unable to attend the show, Foster encourages donations and further involvement through the association’s website. “Music has a profound impact on individuals,” says Foster, “and through this collaboration, we hope to enhance awareness and support for those affected by the disease.”
Foster’s authenticity and relatability as an artist shine through both his music and his personality. Known for his soulful voice and easygoing stage presence, he has built a solid reputation performing at venues and festivals across Virginia and beyond. After relocating to Nashville to pursue a full-time career, Foster’s talents caught the attention of some of country music’s biggest names, leading to opportunities to open for artists like Ashley McBride, Trace Adkins, and Vince Gill. More recently, he performed alongside Oliver Anthony, further solidifying his place in the country music scene.
In October 2023, Foster signed a publishing and production deal with Banner Music and Middleground Music, marking a pivotal moment in his career. Since then, he has been collaborating with some of Nashville’s top young songwriters, releasing new material regularly. However, it is the full-length album We Made Fire, slated for a 2025 release, that will undoubtedly capture the attention of a broader audience. Produced by Ken Coomer, a former member of Wilco, We Made Fire promises to be an impactful collection.
