Multi-faceted R&B and soul singer-songwriter Daley has officially released his long-awaited new studio album, STRANGE NATURE. The 10-track project is available globally now via the SRG-ILS (Virgin Music/UMG) label imprint. Coinciding with the album’s release, Daley has officially kicked off his expansive 27-city STRANGE NATURE US Tour, launching the highly anticipated run of live shows in St. Louis, Missouri.
The new album marks a period of profound personal and artistic evolution for the vocalist, deeply shaped by significant life events over the past several years, including the global pandemic, the loss of his father, and widespread structural shifts within the independent music industry.
“Naming the album STRANGE NATURE was an acknowledgment for me that life does not always unfold in ways we can predict, hope, or expect,” Daley shared regarding the thematic core of the project. “Ideally, I wanted the title of my first album in some years to reflect growth, an internal flourishing, all of these positive, optimistic things. But in my soul, I knew that was only half of the reality of the process.”
He added that the album embraces the duality of existence, noting that the strange parts of life are equal parts beautiful and ugly, and that a creative weight was lifted by accepting that we cannot always control or understand the nature of things.
Daley’s return to the music scene began earlier this spring with the release of the smash single “LAVENDER,” his first official drop since 2018. Written and produced with genre-bending UK producer Swindle, the track provided a lush, immersive meditation on emotional surrender. He quickly followed up with the summer anthem “SLIDE,” blending an infectious R&B bounce with rich orchestral strings and his signature soaring vocals.
Earlier this month, Daley released “HEADLIGHTS,” a powerful vocal showcase that reunited him with acclaimed R&B songstress Marsha Ambrosius. The track immediately garnered widespread acclaim and robust playlisting support across leading streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, and Audiomack.
Beyond its lead singles, STRANGE NATURE navigates a wide spectrum of emotions and boasts an impressive roster of musical heavyweights.
Multi-Grammy-winning musician Robert Glasper lends his talents to “COMPASS,” a standout track about finding your way back to someone despite physical or emotional distance. The track grew from an organic studio session with Glasper on the piano, eventually bringing in the talents of Aliyah Niambi and Justin Tyson. Renowned trumpeter Keyon Harrold is also featured on the 10-track project.
The album explores difficult romantic terrain on the highlight track “EASY.” Described by Daley as a “compassionately cut-throat” breakup song, the track explores the painful realization that a deteriorating relationship has reached its end. Co-written in London with Ryan Ashley, the deeply personal song features beautiful piano arrangements by Darryl Woodson and strings by Izzi Dunn and Neil Waters.
Reflecting on the grueling but rewarding process of completing the album, Daley credited his support system for helping him reach this creative pinnacle. “In more difficult moments I was uplifted by friends, fans, and supporters who made sure to let me know that what I have to contribute is needed, and I truly feel this spurred me on to produce the best album I have ever made.”
