Charley Already Had a Perfect Exit — So Why Is Dexter: Resurrection Rewriting It?

Charley Already Had a Perfect Exit — So Why Is Dexter: Resurrection Rewriting It?

Let me get one thing out of the way: Uma Thurman is one of my favorite actresses.

She was fantastic in Kill Bill and very good in the less-than-stellar Netflix series, Chambers.

So, I was thrilled when she joined the cast of Dexter: Resurrection as Leon’s right-hand, Charley.

Charley was smart, cunning, and fully aware of what it meant to be immersed in the world of serial killers.

She had a well-rounded arc over the season, culminating in her exit from New York City on Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 Episode 10.

It felt like closure, something characters rarely get in the Dexter franchise unless they’re killed off.

Charley’s choice to leave the city to care for her sick mother was powerful and unexpected.

So, you can imagine my surprise when Paramount+ confirmed Thurman was returning for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.

On one hand, it’s exciting to have this chance to explore Charley further. On the other hand, it could undo the strength of her initial arc. Too much of a good thing comes to mind.

The only way I can see her fitting naturally is if her mother has passed and she’s back in New York seeking vengeance.

We already know Brian Cox is set to play the overarching villain, The New York Ripper. Given that Dexter learned the killer’s identity from Leon’s files, it makes sense that he might rely on Charley’s expertise.

She worked with Leon for years and has rubbed elbows with some of the sickest people imaginable.

My biggest hope is that if anything happens to someone close to her while helping Dexter, she won’t go on a revenge mission against him.

Dexter: Resurrection Can’t Afford to Fumble Season 2

That would feel like a retread, and there are far more characters across this 18-year-old franchise who could be explored instead.

Bringing big characters back only works if fans have had time to want them. There has to be an impactful meaning behind an encore.

Charley didn’t become a breakout fan favorite, but she did get the closest thing to a happy ending in Dexter: Resurrection Season 1, so why mess with it?

If a Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 character had to return, why not Mia? Krysten Ritter‘s villainous serial killer was a fantastic addition, and the character was killed off almost without a second thought.

I firmly believe Mia will resurface in some way, and when she does, Dexter had better be ready.

Beyond Thurman and Cox joining the cast, details about Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 are still under wraps.

The show’s first season was a win, and I’m hoping it doesn’t get bogged down by its own storytelling. The cast so far is fantastic, so here’s hoping they read the scripts before signing on.

What are your thoughts on Charley coming back in Dexter: Resurrection Season 2? Do you think it’s a bad idea, or is there more to explore with her character?

Are there any other characters you think HAVE to come back for another arc? I’d love to hear about it!
