Leah Remini is showing that divorce doesn’t have to mean the end of a relationship as she reunited with her ex-husband, Angelo Pagán, on Tuesday (May 26) to celebrate his 58th birthday.
The King of Queens alum took to Instagram to share a family snap at a restaurant, with her standing next to her ex with her hand on his shoulder. “In a world where so much feels curated and performative, I have come to appreciate the rare beauty of families that change shape, but never lose the love that is real,” Remini wrote in the caption.
She continued, “Some may not understand it. But I am incredibly proud of the family we built — and even more proud of the family we chose to remain. Happy birthday [Angelo].”
Pagán responded in the comments with a reference to Al Pacino in The Godfather Part III, writing, “Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in ! You best believe I’m Michael Coleone in this movie!”
Remini and Pagán split up after 21 years of marriage in August 2024 and finalized their divorce two months later. The former couple share a daughter, Sofia Bella Pagán (21), and Pagán has three older sons (Angelo Jr., Alex, and Nico) from a previous relationship.
When they first met, Remini was a member of the Church of Scientology. She and her family left the Church in 2013, and in the years since, she’s spoken out against Scientology in a number of documentaries.
In a statement announcing their divorce in August 2024, Remini noted that it was a mutual decision and that she and Pagán remain best friends.
“Well, here we are. After 28 years together and 21 years of marriage, we have decided to file for divorce,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “This decision came after a lot of thought and care, and as hard as divorce is, we are approaching this with a positive outlook because we know it’s what’s best for us.”
She added, “But here’s the thing: we’ve been best friends for so many years. We are still celebrating holidays together, watching our favorite tv shows together, and gathering as a family.”
