The Songs You Always Knew You Loved: Beauty In Chaos Celebrates the Shadows – The Test Drive (Early Album Previews) – Jammerzine

Beauty In Chaos have today released their compilation album titled ‘Hidden In Plain Sight 2018-2025’. For most bands, a compilation album is either a contractual obligation or a polite way of saying, “Please remember we exist”. Beauty In Chaos takes a far more interesting route with ‘Hidden In Plain Sight 2018-2025’, a collection that feels less like a greatest hits package and more like a guided tour through the corners of the catalog that transcends on era into another while remaining current and complex. Instead of chasing obvious crowd pleasers, curator Michael Ciravolo shines a spotlight on songs that fuse the flex and the fire of originality, creating a release that feels surprisingly fresh despite drawing from familiar territory.

What immediately stands out is how well these selections hold together. Beauty In Chaos has always thrived on collaboration, inviting a rotating cast of artists to leave their fingerprints on the music. Across the years represented here, that approach could have easily resulted in a scattered listening experience. Instead, ‘Hidden In Plain Sight 2018-2025’ reveals just how consistent the project’s creative vision has been. Different voices come and go, but the emotional atmosphere remains unmistakably Beauty In Chaos.

The album also serves as a reminder of how much depth has existed beneath the surface of the band’s releases. These are not leftovers rescued from obscurity. This is the iceberg below the waterline, where the music ferments. They are fully realized songs that simply happened to live in the shadow of bigger singles, videos, or more heavily promoted moments. Hearing them gathered in one place makes a compelling argument that some of the strongest material in the Beauty In Chaos universe has been quietly waiting for a second chance.

What makes the collection especially satisfying is its sense of perspective. Ciravolo’s reflections on revisiting the catalog while preparing the next studio album give this release an almost archival quality, but without turning it into a museum exhibit. The music still feels alive, restless, and emotionally immediate. Effortlessly escaping the dread of dwelling in nostalgia, the compilation highlights a creative journey that continues to evolve while acknowledging the roads already traveled.

The sequencing deserves credit as well. Compilations often feel like someone emptied a drawer onto the floor and called it a playlist. Here, each track seems carefully chosen to complement the next, allowing themes, moods, and textures to unfold naturally. The result is an album that can be enjoyed by longtime followers looking to reconnect with forgotten favorites and newcomers curious about what makes Beauty In Chaos such a distinctive project. This is more of a continuation of the concept than it is a compilation.

Perhaps the greatest achievement of ‘Hidden In Plain Sight 2018-2025’ is that it accomplishes exactly what its title promises. These songs weren’t stuck in their time as much as they were always here for rediscovery, patiently waiting for listeners to circle back and appreciate them on their own merits through new ears and refined hearts. In revisiting the corners of the box outside of the box of an eight year creative journey, Beauty In Chaos has assembled something far more meaningful than a retrospective. It is a celebration of persistence, artistry, creative evolution of revolution and the strange magic that happens when great songs finally get the attention they deserved all along.

“For the better part of the last year, Michael Rozon and I have been working on the next Beauty In Chaos album. With the BIC ‘process’ and rotating artists, it is certainly a long process. We are now in the mix stage, and I have set a release date of the next studio album for September 28th, which will be eight years to the day of the release of our debut album, ‘Finding Beauty In Chaos’. While that release date now certainly makes sense to me, I had originally hope to this record on my late mom’s heavenly birthday of today, June 18th. During our mix process, I find myself revisiting our albums, both studio and the ‘re-envisions’ releases. This time, I made a list of tracks that I felt, for whatever reason were a bit ‘overshadowed’. Maybe due to no video or just list a bit in the amount of material. For whatever reason, I thought they were worthy to have a bit more light shown on them. Hence my idea of this digital release … ‘Hidden In Plain Sight 2018-2025’ Happy Birthday my dear Bonnie.”
