It was quiet this week –too quiet. It makes my job all the more difficult, and doesn’t anyone ever consider my job, or me? I am Rigor Morrissey, afterall.
With little to report on, there are few strings and connections to be drawn between releases, common threads that would make a more cohesive Dropocalypse… like, I could rip on the fact that only one of the four selected are plain black vinyl and we are yet again in another week of late-stage capitalistic hell, with more variants than we’d ever know what to truly do with.
Or, I could rip on all of these being either rereleases or from bands old enough to have multiple rereleases under their belts.
Or, I could just make fun of the fact that even dead and in the grave, you need to still worry about making money, hence why I’m writing this godforsaken column. And I might just be starting to sound a little too much like Dave Mustcomplain, yet again.
Pleasantries aside, here is your capitalism slop, and you’re gonna like it.
Mercyful Fate –Don’t Break The Oath
Traditional heavy metallers from the 80s Mercyful Fate haven’t had a new release in almost thirty years, however, there is a brand new vinyl variant of their 1984 classic, Don’t Break the Oath. Originally remastered and reissued all the way back in 1997, at least there are more variants being pumped out a good 30 years later. However, props to the fact that the vinyl actually matches the album artwork.

Motörhead –Bad Magic
Now, Motörhead don’t get the same points for a matching album artwork and vinyl because the cover is black and so is the vinyl –so, no real creativity points there. However, it was the band’s final release of completely new material, so I guess there’s that. I guess this would be an newbie record for an oldie.

blink-182 –Buddha
I’m pretty sure I’ve already mentioned blink-182‘s specifically for a variant before – however, just for emphasis on, you know, capitalism –here is another one, just a few short months after the release of the other one. I mean, I understand being in it for the payday, but these guys are supposed to be ‘punks.’ Alas, close proximity to billionaire empires might have that effect. But… it is Buddha.

Within Temptation –Erase
Actually a rather unique-looking vinyl variant, Within Temptation have reissued two of their albums this week, but Erase particularly caught my attention for the half-and-half coloring on the materiak. A turquoise and white LP matches the album’s artwork –hey! Another one for creativity points, but not you, Motörhead, still no points for you –and is kind of just visually striking. That’s enough of a criteria for me.
