Mastodon, Hushed and Grim (2021)”,”photo-description”:”

The promise of a double album had Mastodon fans salivating. With the exception ofBlood Mountain, the 21st century luminaries had only released albums under a one-hour runtime. And given what the foursome achieved just in those timespans, it was exciting that something outrageously epic was going to be unleashed upon us.Instead,Hushed and Grimis a frustrating album that lacks the fire and finesse of its predecessors, as well as sustained vocal contributions from Brent Hinds (just two songs). The first true weak link in the catalog, this eighth LP has the variety to justify the nearly hour-and-a-half length, but the song “More Than I Could Chew” seems to be its epitaph.Hushed and Grimis not without its highlights, however. No Mastodon fan should skip out on the likes of single “Teardrinker” or the mystical “The Beast” (the only song to feature all three singers).
