Turns out, Whitney Leavitt isn’t the only star leaving The Secret Lives of Mormon Wivesafter Season 5. One of the longtime stars posted on September 14 that she will not be returning to the franchise, stating, “There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals.”
Honestly, there were a lot of questions going into Season 5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Demi Engemann was officially out, Whitney was busy doing her thing on Broadway, several breakups had rocked the cast publicly, and, oh yeah, there was the small matter of the Taylor Frankie Paul drama.
Domestic violence allegations surrounding Taylor had led ABC to pull her season of The Bachelorette before it aired, while a messy legal battle with her ex, Dakota Mortensen, was unfolding. Production on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives was also paused amid the situation.
So, naturally, some viewers wondered whether we’d even get Season 5 of MomTok. We did, but only a little. The fifth season arrived with just five episodes, leaving plenty of questions unanswered. And now, viewers are desperate for Season 6 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. (It’s us. We’re desperate viewers.)
So, what’s next for MomTok? Here’s everything we know about The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 6, including whether Season 5 could be getting more episodes and which MomTok members are officially logging out.
Will there be more episodes in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 5?
Season 5 was unusually short, with just five episodes, each running for up to an hour. By comparison, Season 4 had 10 episodes, while each of the previous three seasons consisted of 11 episodes.
We initially chalked the shortened season up to the disruption in filming caused by the legal situation involving Taylor and Dakota. That disruption is reflected in the format of the season, with each episode counting down to the point when filming paused in March 2026. However, filming reportedly resumed in May 2026, as evidenced by the confessionals filmed after the legal situation came to light. So, what if it wasn’t just the confessionals that were filmed after the pause, but new events as well?

And then there’s the biggest clue of all: Episode 5 ended with a “to be continued” title card, suggesting the season may not be over just yet.
So, will The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives Season 5 release more episodes? It’s certainly possible, although nothing has been officially confirmed yet. It’s worth remembering that we had similar theories about Season 4 that ultimately didn’t amount to anything. Still, the “to be continued” message, combined with the unusual filming format, makes this situation feel a little different.
Of course, there’s also another possibility: The “to be continued” could simply be setting the stage for Season 6 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, rather than promising additional Season 5 episodes. They might think we’re nervous after all the recent drama and need some assurance.
Will there be a Season 6 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives?
Layla Taylor confirmed in August that The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will return for Season 6, and let slip that filming was already underway.
“We’re not done with Season 5, and we’re filming for Season 6 right now,” she said during an appearance on Hulu’s Get Real podcast.
It’s also been confirmed that the show received an order for 20 additional episodes, meaning there’s plenty more #MomTok drama on the way. In other words, we’re not just looking at Season 6. We should be getting a Season 7, too. (Kicking our feet right now!)
So, while Season 5 may have been unusually short, it looks like The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is far from finished.
When is Season 6 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives coming out?
At this point, MomTok seems to be filming almost year-round, which helps explain how they’ve managed to release five seasons in just two years. That’s an incredible pace compared with most reality TV shows.
“Honestly, it makes sense,” Layla explained during the podcast episode. “It’s so hard. We have this battle that all of us girls talk about when we’re not filming, I miss it. And I honestly get kind of bored, and so much happens too conveniently when the cameras go down. So, it’s like at this point, just let’s film the whole year.”
There isn’t a confirmed release date for Season 6 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives yet, but we can look at the show’s release pattern for clues. Season 1 premiered in September 2024, followed by Season 2 in May and July 2025 as a split season. Season 3 arrived in November and December 2025, also as a split season, while Season 4 premiered in March 2026. Now, Season 5 has arrived in September 2026.
If the show continues at anything close to its current pace, we could see Season 6 as early as March 2027. That’s our prediction rather than a confirmed release date, but it would make sense for Hulu to strike while the show is still generating plenty of buzz, and with MomTok apparently filming throughout the year, they certainly have the footage to keep the drama coming.
The new season might cover Layla’s coming out as bisexual, Jessi Ngatikaura‘s split from Jordan Ngatikaura and new relationship with Marciano Brunette, Jen Affleck‘s pregnancy, and the Taylor Frankie Paul events.

Whitney will not be returning for the next season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Whitney announced her departure during her final stage performance in Chicago on Broadway in May, and she reiterated the news when sharing Season 5 promo photos on Instagram.

“Tomorrow, my final season of SLOMW airs. Five years of my life wrapped into an experience I’ll never be able to fully put into words,” she wrote. “To the women I shared this chapter with, regardless of where our relationships stand today, there will always be something that connects us when our paths cross. We shared an experience that is uniquely ours, and nothing can take that away.”
“More than anything, I’m leaving this chapter with gratitude. For every version of us, every lesson, every memory, and every person who made these five years what they were. I’m really grateful I got to live it with you. My ‘forever momtok,’ I love you.”
Whitney plays a more limited role in Season 5 because of her Chicago commitments on Broadway. MomTok does visit her in NYC, however, and we also see her get into an argument with Jen.
On September 14, Mikayla Matthews revealed that she will not be returning to the franchise as well, at least for the time being. She wrote, “I made my decision over a week ago, after hearing some news, that I will not be continuing the show at this moment.”
She continued, “I’ve said from the beginning of this that I’m not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior I don’t agree especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse. There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I’ve had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly. And for me personally, continuing to directly profit from this behavior feels wrong and unethical. It feels like a disservice to the children, everyone’s healing and the millions of people watching.”
In conclusion, Mikayla shared, “This show has been a huge part of my life and has helped me provide for my family. I’m so grateful for the experience, and will continue sharing my story, my health and advocating for myself and others. This shouldn’t be ‘relatable’ or entertainment in anyway. Supporting an ADULT doesn’t mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with zero accountability or change. I was in that enabling cycle for years, and I’m not going to be a part of that again! love you all.”
But the real question everyone wants to know is: Is Taylor Frankie Paul returning for Season 6 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives? Surprisingly, she might. (We’re low-key shocked too.) “ABC’s been great. They have total faith throughout,” an insider told Page Six. “It’s been a very open line of communication with ABC, and they’ve been supportive throughout this process.”
As mentioned, Layla has already discussed the new season, so she is clearly sticking around. There’s also no reason at this point to believe Jen, Jessi, Miranda McWhorter, or Mayci Neeley won’t return.
That leaves one big question: Will the show bring in someone new to fill the Whitney and Mikayla-shaped gap?
We doubt it. When Demi left the show, producers didn’t try to immediately replace her with another full-time MomTok member. That said, we’ve seen more of Layla’s friend, Litia Garr, this season, so perhaps the show is gradually introducing her as a bigger part of the group. She also has a connection to Chase McWhorter, which could naturally link her further into his ex-wife Miranda’s circle.
For now, though, it looks like Season 6 will be carrying on with most of the familiar faces, with Taylor seemingly back in the mix and Whitney officially moving on.
When will The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County be released?

The series will explore a community where traditional religious beliefs collide with modern West Coast lifestyles.
We already know the cast of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives: Orange County, but there’s no official release date just yet. For now, the series is slated to arrive sometime in late 2026.
However, we already got our first crossover! McCall DaPron appeared at a dinner during Season 5, as she’s Mayci’s sister. And there are already rumors that Jen could make a cameo in the first season.
Or, who knows? Maybe Hulu has an even bigger crossover planned to help boost the new show. We’ll have to wait and see!
